Mormaii is the pioneer, with almost thirty years of innovations in the sector, the greatest mix of products and the highest income among the brands of the market of surf and water sports in Brazil. It all started with this differentiated wetsuit made especially for surfers. After that, clothing was produced for diving, jet-skiing, triathlon, windsurfing, and many other sports where the athletes adopted Mormaii neoprene as their official equipment while in the water.
The constant technological improvements and design of neoprene items made this Brazilian brand to have a good acceptance all over the world, being elected by English magazine Wavelength as “the best wetsuit for surfing in the world”.
Clothing, shoes and accessories are the other sectors where Mormaii acts and has excellent projection. Each season, Mormaii launches a new collection with winter and summer fashionable items for men, women and teens, commercialized throughout the whole country, being jeans the biggest novelty of its current mix.
In Brazil, surfwear brands dispute the market aggressively and some of them rely on resources from abroad. But Mormaii, which is 100% Brazilian, continues with an above-average growth. In 2010, the Mormaiii Group grew by 20% over the previous year, with a detail: it´s the ninth consecutive year with high growth rates in sales of sports products.
For 30 years the brand has been strengthening its business partnerships by the participation of representatives, franchisers and licensers, among other collaborators. There are 28 Mormaii stores and five exclusive kiosks located in different parts of Brazil. Mormaii has approximately 20 thousand places where its products are sold, covering the entire national territory.
Today, Mormaii produces everything related to outdoor action sports, from its well-known sunglasses, jeans, watches and bikes to novelties like kitesurfing and motocross equipment. There are 35 licensed companies manufacturing exclusive items with Mormaii logo on, which is a synonym of quality.
Its poetic history and products gain admirers and the preference of consumers, who identify with this brand that was created in the South. Many marketing initiatives collaborate for this positive image Mormaii has achieved and are of vital importance for the growth of the sport. One example is the Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest (in Imbituba/SC) – a world competition on the calendar of windsurfing, kitesurfing and Stand Up Paddle, on the waves of Ibiraquera (SC); and the itinerant Brazilian stage of the World Championship of Motocross.
Mormaii´s advertisings constantly in print and electronic media, releases the latest launches besides presenting the sponsored athletes to the public. There are nearly thirty hired members on the team and many other competitors supported by Mormaii, with the same equipments that consumers find on the market.
Abroad, the work of Mormaii is also in full activity. Mormaii exports to approximately 85 countries such as Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Finland, Russia, England, Andorra, Greece, Netherlands, Peru, among others. Mormaii produces in five countries outside Brazil and in China, through a Brazilian licensee. In Peru, Chile Argentina and Uruguay through an international license. However, the Mormaii’s expansion to the international market can’t be limited to sales, so the brand makes use of its marketing, using the same strategy that is a success in Brazil, such as supporting events, participating in fairs and supporting sportspeople.
Being a reference in the surf world for its high quality wetsuits, Mormaii is already well-known in all sports sectors for keeping creating new products that solve problems. An example of that are the Mormaii Floater sunglasses, launched in 2006, that have a double function, where they can be worn on a daily basis or for the practice of extreme sports, on the water surface. Mormaii sunglasses are famous for their optic quality and for their modern design that floats.
Despite all the growth, Mormaii has preserved its original style. Its headquarter is still located in the city of Garopaba (SC) and its founder is the CEO and also the official tester of the products. Doctor Marco Aurélio Raymundo moved to the coast of Santa Catarina in 1974 and became known as Morongo. Thanks to his endeavors, Mormaii employs members of many families in the region and provides direct and indirect jobs, contributing to government´s tax revenues.
